The most recent Marvel movie has just come out, the question people want answered: Is the MCU in trouble? The last Thor movie to come out was a huge disappointment, the MCU tried to dabble in getting more serious with the tone of their movies. However, since then, Marvel has learned their lesson and lightened things up a bit. But would returning to Thor with a lighter mood be good or bad? The answer: it’s a good thing. Returning to Thor with a lighter mood was definitely the best choice Marvel could have made with the franchise. Personally I have never been a big fan of Thor when it comes to Marvel, but Thor Ragnarok has been one of the most enjoyable Marvel movies I’ve seen recently. When it came to Thor: The Dark World I was not a fan of the gloomy tone of both the plot and just the way the movie looked, and it turned out neither were most people. Seeing the failure Marvel decided to change things up with the sequel. Marvel has caught on, from the success of Guardians of The Galaxy, that people love comedy in their superhero movies; so they brought it hard with Thor: Ragnarok. Movies don’t often make me actually laugh — I can appreciate a movie for its comedy and do find a lot of movies funny — but there were several times that Thor: Ragnarok I found myself doing just. The movie had everything you would expect from a more recent Marvel movie: quality effects, great costume design, humorous banter, and interesting characters. Thor: Ragnarok has an odd 80s vibe when it comes to the colors, music, and design, it’s definitely not a bad vibe though. All the buildings in the movie choose like one or two colors to plaster all over the rooms, the clothing the gladiators wear portray the fact that they are gladiators very well by covering them in ripped rags and pieced together armor, even all the sci-fi ships and weapons look like they belong in the world. Overall the art direction of Thor: Ragnarok is enough to please the eyes and keep you wondering what they might show next. The villain of the movie isn’t really the most interesting but when it comes to Thor movies they never really are — besides Loki(Tom Hiddleston) from the first, who makes another appearance in this movie. Another thing the movie does right is bringing back beloved Marvel characters. Tom Hiddleston — who has had his face been basically synonymous with Loki — returns by popular demand of the fans, as well as The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Hiddleston as Loki as well as Chris Hemsworth as Thor both do amazing jobs at their roles, after several movies they’re as much of a perfect fit for their roles as you think they would be. Hemsworth has been in a ton of roles where he plays the muscular, brave, courageous person. Almost all of his roles fit the bill: The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Red Dawn, 12 Strong, and In The Heart of The Sea. Thor is no different. Hemsworth has gotten used to the same character type but he’s also gotten great at playing that role and does his job as Thor perfectly. As a whole, Thor: Ragnarok is a great movie if you’re searching for a superhero action comedy with great actors, set and costume design, and effects.
